Family Pictures

broken promises shown as broken bones
blackened deeds within the blackened eyes

bruised childhoods to match the bruised skin

butchered hopes lay beside a butchered ego

screaming parent producing a silent child

shredded confidence covered by baggy clothes

scared eyes poking through the tears

secrets kept regardless the truth

behind the smiling faces of a portrait

lies the hidden tale this will tell

how many can say this truth?

If there be but one, it is far too many!

    Hoodwinked

Another great poem I have read. It is amazing the stories behind the family pictures. You did justice to this title.

Wow, this write touched me so very deeply. As you know being a survivor of child hood abuse myself. Like they say you never know what goes on behind closed doors. Excellent imagery and emotions.

It is surprising what is really behind a picture. The circumstances that came about before or after that picture is taken or just the circumstances of the day.
