winter sun tangled itself
through the windscreen,
knifing at my senses,
daring me
to squint & scream -
with relief
i realised
i was young enough
to squeeze my eyes shut-
& keep breathing
without doubts.
trusting your hands
to hold the wheel,
i hid from piercing rays
& prayed that you’d stay strong.
