The cottage.

Missing image
Over a century
Since this Cottage was built
By callused hands of well
Weathered men.
Residual whispers
Of love and laughter
Emits From each stone
That consoles me.
Lime mortar
Crumbles in places
Giving up preserved sea shells
Which came from
The sandy shore of the
Beach out front.
Pine sheeted doors
With crudely cut frames
And clattering sash windows -
Acquiesces the whistling
Wind to croon
Whilst the flames
In the hearth dance.
But I shall renew
What time has aged
Fossilizing this home
For another hundred years -
And adding to it my
Whisper.

I like how the shells and stones and work of weather men
suggest the fossilization and stay against time

thousands of stones, framing the sea
Irish the sounds, slap shore happily
hundreds of years, grinding the toil
life time persistence, home beaten soil

    Warmth and compassion shared

I simply LOVE cottages, and the simplicity of life. And your cottage is beautifully restored to a place of the heart. Ah! Heavenly!

Thank you for once again stressing the importance of renovating our heritage and truly appreciate HOME on earth, even though it may be temporary.

    Love
    Myra

This poem is beautifully written and filled with heart warming love for the special place that we call home. As I studied the picture and read your words, I fell in love with your home, the sea, and the many secrets and mysteries that are held within those walls of your house. I have not lived in a home as old as yours or one that obviously has had the love and care that your house has had. But I will tell you that I have those same feelings about my home here in WV. I wish you the best of luck in this contest...you deserve to do well! Carolyn
