I'm not really sure what I have to see with 'white spirit' here though... are you perhaps mentioning the clouds that surround the sun?

thank you for commenting on all three of my submitted haiku, dear leander, and for your interest to understand the meaning ...
captured
in white spirit -
the sun
there are several possibilities of interpretation : one is a glass filled with white spirit (the chemical that is used to dillute oil-painting) and the sun reflecting on its surface ...
another one would be the actual canvas of a landscape including the image of the sun, and it could be considered that the yellow color-stain representing the sun seems captured in the same chemical called white spirit ...
on a more subtle and metaphorical level, the sun may stand for manifested matter infused by pure consciousness (white spirit) ...
one reader saw "the 'source of radiance' captured in the 'solar plexus' chakra of an enlightened being" in this image ...
well, many more interpretations may be possible

In all those years that I'm on here, you're the first one that actually came back at me when I didn't catch something, in such wonderful detail

Very nicely done again, i like the white spirit, thats a great line. Means God to me...Well done...Scott

it was a contest about "painting" ... therefore the white spirit
- but you are absolutely right : there is a more spiritual interpretation to this haiku, and you have just hit the target ...

Gosh, have you written two totally exquisite images in the way of entries to this contest, Maa! You're on a haiku-roll, and I've really enjoyed each of these reads.
Thank you so much for this entry to the contest!

This is stunning! I am captivated by the imagery you give us with the "white spirit" ... and the sun! Just beautiful. I think you've really produced something sensational here.

This is a nice haiku I love the simpleness and the massive imagery here. There are some who say haiku should be 5-7-5 but I have always felt that that is only a basic form of haiku in English. This poem is just as good as any 5-7-5 poem infact it may vbery well be better all around

-
-
your intuition is correct ... indeed, I have learned in the haiku-class on ap, as well as read in jane reichhold's book about haiku, that the 5-7-5 rule comes from the japanese tradition, but since syllables in english don't correspond to the japanese system at all, contemporary haiku don't need to follow this rule ...
as long as they're less or equal to 17 sylls, it's okay ...
I'm still learning and practising ...
so this is just my debut ...
thanks so much for stopping by,

maa

This is small yet profound image if I am reading it correctly, as it seems to suggest to me the 'source of radiance' captured in the 'solar plexus' chakra of an enlightened being, as well as the 'oil painted' sun in the heavens. It is very thought-provoking regardless, and took a good deal of sensitive contemplation. Best of luck in the contest with this little charm.

dear david,
I love your interpretation ...
indeed, there are several meanings in this haiku : one more tangible, where white spirit represents the chemical liquid oil-painting-artists use, and one more spiritual, which you captured perfectly ...
my vision was the sun representing matter (energy) captured in white spirit or consciousness, which is independant of manifestation ...
I am very grateful for your visit, my dear friend,

Six words an, array of thoughts - the bottle of white spirit gleaming in sunlight while the artist paints - or the wash of white spirit over the oils to get the essence of sunlight captured in the picture.
nice one

dear tishu,
I was hoping that someone would capture the basic meaning of this haiku, using white spirit as the chemical liquid to dillute oil-color ... although I am delighted as well that some of my friends who know me a bit better could detect a hidden spiritual meaning underneath the surface ...
thank you so much for your most appreciated comment,

That is a new and unique way of describing the sun. I like this. In a few short words, you managed to capture the essence of all that array we do see. Great job!
