He Wishes You'd Understand

He wishes you'd understand
Why he did what he did
Joining the military
Going to war
He wishes that you'd support him
Instead of protesting
He wishes you wouldn't tell him
He's going to hell because
He lost his leg in the war
Because even if he could get
His leg back, brand new
He'd go back
And do it all again
He wishes you could see
All those people in Iraq
Throwing parties
Telling him they're glad he came
He wishes you could see
The smiles of the children
The soccer games they play
With all his battle buddies
He wanted to help them
He wishes you'd understand

Author notes

this is a poem about my brother. recently some woman told him he's going to hell because he went to war and lost a leg.

I fully support our troops and if you like this poem you may want to read What Goes Thru Your Mind parts 1 and 2 and River of Mortal Red.

This is a really good poem, it sorta reminds me of the "Wake me up when September ends" music video.

Why doesn't that woman understand that he went to war, and lost his leg, for his country?
I understand completely what happened, it's so sad that some people are just stupid like that, protesting when people are risking their lives at war, for them.
In my opinion war has noble, yet needless, sacrifices.
Great write, and good luck in the contest.

      Agreed

"In my opinion war has noble, yet needless, sacrifices.
Great write, and good luck in the contest." War is indeed a necessary evil in this world.

    important message here

I have often felt that our soldiers serve a wonderful country, but deserved better leaders; war requires noble sacrifices but it is not a good thing. Mankind must learn to solve problems in better ways. People often confuse the bravery of the soldier with the wisdom of the cause, they are not the same so good for you to uphold the soldier. A well written poem here an important message, so very well told...PK

      Agreed, again!

"eople often confuse the bravery of the soldier with the wisdom of the cause" these soldiers are fighting their best and giving their everything at the risk of losing their life for us, for the world. Yet people shun them because they don't agree. Don't agree with the war, that's fine. But don't have a go at our soldiers, they're just doing their job.
