~Secret Dreams~

Missing image

I will never let you know

How I feel and love you so

Or, if my words of make believe

Could show the love that we conceive.

The walls of man keep us apart,

When will the good times ever start?

You have my soul now take my heart;

I've felt the pain from Cupids dart

Although they still may laugh at me

It's in your clasp I would be free.

As golden eyes cannot be blue,

I give this love and truth to you.

But words of love is all I have

To heal your wounds with caring salve

And, if I could but see your face,

You would find bliss in my embrace.

For this one story surely told

With love's great light you might behold.

My words are gifts and never sold.

The worth of love is more than gold.

If somewhere in your day, you'll find

That I am there within your mind,

Then maybe you will someday see

It's love I send to you from me.

    beautiful & romantic

You tell the story of Dante and Beatrice so well here. I can see why this won a trophy.
You have many lovely stanzas and the last one is an excellent finish to this poem.

My Dear Friend -Timothy aka poeticweaver~
Thank you warmly for your words of love. In my heart its better to come together than stand apart. I had the pleasure of seeing the film “Evening”. Staring Vanessa Redgrave and a cast of other fine actors. She plays a woman wracked with guilt over a secret love from her past. And at the end of her life, Vanessa Redgrave confesses my only true love is “Harris”. Yet she had not seen him for forty years. It brings sorrow and heartfelt tears. Makes you realize, The worth of love is more than gold. I appreciate your comment love and support. ~Hugs, and Love, Sharon~

My first thought was that this poem is more than just about Dante and Beatrice, that there's some personal elelment to it. The second was how nicely it flowed...I'm horrible at that. No not horrible...what's worse than horrible?

And of course the intent of the poem is wonderful. That is what we all seek, that special someone who'll be there in the bad times...not that we want bad times...I'll shut up now.

Dear Sir Ima Cucumber, Your generous love and tender thoughts are true gems. Your poetry is exquisite grace, and filled to the brim with deep insight. Yes, you’re correct, there is a personal element to this poem. Ah, pearls of yearning, this is a romantic journey for everyone who has loved from afar. Dante is holding his hand over his heart. I tried to convey his longing for his one special ‘Lady’ that life has sadly kept them apart. Hugh, and other friends are always here to light my muse. They encourage me to keep soaring higher. I have felt the same way as you. Yet, this is life, hold on for the ride, and share all the love you have inside. All the best to you and yours, ~XXX Hugs, and Love Sharon~

    Dear Sharon,

These beautiful verses aptly capture the essence of the courtly love which, unrequited, ill-starred and expressed only from a distance, Dante Alighieri sustained for Beatrice throughout his life.
The tender grace with which you have infused this poem makes a sincere and fitting interpretation to Holliday's imaginative painting of Dante watching his adored Beatrice, seemingly oblivious of his presence, pass by with her companions.
Thankyou for entering our contest and good luck in the voting for a worthy entry.
Applause, love and hugs, XXX Hugh (R.)

~Thank you for all the heavenly moments of love you share~

      My Dearest Hugh,
The miracle in my life has been to unfold the mystery of courtly love. Which I so graciously share with all. Thank you for your beautiful and healing poetry filling my heart and soul with divine insight. I have rediscovered my future past in the prophetic words of Dante Alighieri. “MY LADY CARRIES LOVE WITHIN HER EYES” by: Dante Alighieri (1265-1321) It’s summertime and now I have seen the true meaning of unrequited love. I stand in awe at the response Dante shared as to the question why he loved Beatrice above all others. "Ladies, the end of my love was indeed the greeting of this lady, of whom you are perhaps thinking, and in that greeting lay my beatitude, for it was the end of all my desires." I wish you and yours a blessed dawn, and I am grateful to rise up singing another love song. ~XXX Hugs, Love, Kisses, Sharon~
