The Poet and The Rose (A Spenserian Sonnet)

With scarlet bloom this blossom rings her chime
that I might see such vision and explore
the care she took to grow into her prime
where eyes of mine admire and adore.

Her velvet petals sing with soft rapport
and linger here with winded spicy scent
so I remember her forevermore
and all the beauty she does represent.

Such tune for me does leave me so content
united with perfume where words compose
that we to each the other shall consent
forever then, the poet and the rose.

And here within our garden of delight
are fragrant words in verse which we recite.

Thank you again. Sonnets are not an easy task as I learned in this rounds contest. Tons and tons of editing for meter. But eventually, it came out in the wash.

    Well, it's pretty ...

    and pretty good too.

Congrats on the Gold. I like Duana's comment about this poem below:

the intricacies of this is like looking straight into a diamond. (Although I am not impressed with her grammar:

intricacies is -- give me a break.)

Anyway, this is very nice. The final couplet is a bit weak, and I'd think about finding a stronger one. I think you'd have something much better then.

wow, how did I miss reading this one. This one is absolutely fabulous- genius! You are amazing. I couldn't even imagine having the way of thinking neccessary to write such a beautiful poem- it is top quality like the classic sonnets. WELL deserved gold! There were a lot of amazing poems in this contest- but this one really is a cut above- the intricacies of this is like looking straight into a diamond.

Thank you so much. I honestly believe that there is something very special that happens between a poet and a rose. Think of all the poems written over the years that involve a rose. Her timeless beauty has been penned for centuries. Thank you so much. ~Pam

    Heavenly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pam, With scent as lovely as your words the rose filled my mind's eye with a beauty that only you can give to it. There is something about roses and poetry that just fits like hand and glove. As usual your elegant verbiage flowed softly from the page to my heart. Rhythm and rhyme flawless and you carried me back to Spenserian times with this piece. A magnificent sonnet you penned I'm still sighing at the loveliness my eyes beheld. Bravo!!! Bravo!!! Bravo!!! Thank you for sharing another of your masterpieces with all of us and best wishes in the competition. Love you my friend, Joyce
