In my own little world I sat
Reading promises of magic, adventures, and love
My own little way of shunning out pain
My baby sister cries from pains
A virus attacks her throat and ears.
Doctors summon the child
Who begs me to protect her?
The waiting room looks cold and uninviting
Here I sit to return to my comforting little world
-- A cry of pain breaks my train of thought --
My world pauses for a moment to focus on the cry
Innocent eyes look up at me, frightened as a rabbit
We mumbled our hellos
I closed my book and moved closer
To this stranger who has awoken me
In the nervousness of the waiting room comfort has settled around us
As he is pulled into my own little world
