Street Corner Jazzer

Leaning against a street lamp,
smoky rhythms pour out
mixed with the haze;
hat brim resting below the eyes,
casting features in shadow.

An open case
rests beside my feet
waiting for passerby
to flick in a coin or two.

Fingers caress the keys
coaxing out sweet melodies,
drifting down along the streets
to mix with the tune
of a city in slumber.

A worn old shoe
taps out the beat
as the music keeps playin'
and shadows drift by.

Author notes

I love jazz, and so this is what I wanted to depict. I always wanted to know what it would be like to play on a street corner, just to see if I could pick up any change at all. I hope you liked it.

Liked this- remember writing one about this same thing - a jazz musician on the street corner. Many good musicians can make quite a bit of cash pan handling on the street like this.

Groovy ! The images dropped me in a down town New York ally, foggy, dark, there's a musician playing on the corner I flip in a dollar coin and light a cigar. My hat keeps out the riffraff, just the corner in my glance as I see her walk across the street, she's as hot as the night is steamy, hearing her heels click by , chills up my spine. I tap out the beat to his jazzy sound ... The night is full of shadows and the music kept playin, I think I'll chill here awhile. Forgive me, the artist in me just got lost in your writing. You put me far from here , thank you, I'm glad I found your writing today. I'm being put out in a couple of hours for some more medical stuff and I've been nervous all day, so I thought I'd look to see if I could find some good writing and I did ! This is what writing is suppose to do ! I hope you don't mind me sharing where I went!

    Namaste'

Oooh! I liked this one, lol, it took me away from my usual reads and put me in front of that person emptying my whole damned account into a case!

And no, lol, I know the feeling it's not to much to ask. I'm surprised you had to ask for comments on such a great write.
