Generation To Generation

Perusing back over my life
I can hear the tympanic rhythms
Of generations of my ancestors
Firming down the basic foundations
And fundamental structures that were
Ultimately the melting pot of all my
Morals, beliefs, values and character traits
Instilled in me through the ages that make me
The person they and God blessed me to be.
I was handed down enough of several invaluable gifts:
Strength enough to over come obstacles that are laid in my path
Showing me I have the ability to stand tall in the face of adversity
Faith enough to know and understand that the key to life and
To my survival in this life is trusting and depending on God
Because He is the essence of all of our salvation
Pride enough to command my respect from others
While not dwelling in the selfishness of conceit
Compassion enough to have a caring and loving heart
That is open to hear the cries and needs of others
Generosity enough to be able to share my blessings
With family, friends, and strangers who may be in need
Hope enough to see and prepare for the future generations
Coming after me and teaching them of those who came before me
Intelligence enough to know that education is essential for growth
And it is not always in the classroom that we are educated
Grace enough to be thankful for all that God has given with the
Willingness to share to show grace to others in all ways
Joy enough to find my happiness and peace within myself
And be able to share, laugh, cry and love all those in my heart
For these blessings of a firm foundational structure of ancestry
I thank the generations who came before me
I pray for the generations who are yet to come
I embrace the love that has flowed
In and out of this intricately
Woven ancestry of hope.
