Not tonight Josephine

Just nine days after the marriage
Of Napoleon to Josephine
He had to go off to Milan
To her this was so mean

For months Napoleon begged her
To join him for their honeymoon
Josephine became quite ill
As he would find out soon

On July 17th seventeen ninety six
A letter of love was written
It shows of his love for her
It showed he was truly smitten

But not all things were good I fear
As rumours were being heard
That Josephine was unfaithful
Napoleon waived them as absurd

His letters were more passionate
But on deaf ears I think they’d fall
As Josephine was nowhere to be found
When he came home and made the call

Awaiting nine days for her
His suspicious nature began to show
But knew that for all his fears
His enemy must never know

He confronted Josephine face to face
But she denied it emphatically
From that day on it would be known
As the day of catastrophe

From this day forward she would see
And was more loving towards her man
But for Napoleon I am afraid
It is when the resentment began.

His trust for Josephine was gone
And a mistress he would take
And parade her in open sight
Showing love that was so fake

His mistresses did not engage his feelings
It was just the power that made him stray
His love was kept for Josephine
Who he would secretly love each day

It was on his exile that she got ill
And passed away unseen
He picked violets for her grave
And wept for his Josephine.

Awww... this is so sad. I think they both were at fault in this piece, but it's a shame they didn't just reconcile their love and go on from there. You've written a wonderfully informative and enjoyable history lesson here, sanity.

    Good luck in the contest

Very romantic. Perhaps he had a heart after all. Tres interessant.

Ah, you make him sound both real and sympathetic. It's quite an interesting and informative poem. He was a unique fellow wasn't he...and left his mark. Now if we could just find out what he kept inside his jacket.

    This is indeed very sad...
Even a brave man can have his heart broken.
He died defeated in every possible way.
Thanks sis for your excellent entry!
