He was a hero of a special kind
Not one of those who slaughter evil men
Not one who went to conquer foreign land
Nor charismatic leader of the crowds
He was not dressed in silk-embroidered gown
Nor did he wear a ruby-covered crown
The hero of my heart’s a simple man
Who freedom from the ego-trap achieved
Through questioning “Who Am I ?” day and night
Eventually, the answer got revealed
If this sounds simple, put it to the test
And enter the Unknown through Inner Quest
For outer world, reflection of the mind
Is tied to karmic law of birth and death
No happiness through senses may be found
By everchanging objects, thirst’s not stilled
In questioning illusionary world
Eventually, true nature gets unfurled
My hero showed me how to find my core
The Source, my Essence or my Higher Self
The emptiness inside me not to fear
For wholeness is contained within the void
He taught me with the eye of heart to see
Oh Ramana, I humbly bow to Thee

though I have heard alot about thy greatness you mentioned here, I have not been much aware of Him, though I would welcome a chance to learn more. I am glad, that you brought this piece here and incorporated Sai with Him. Thankyou for taking the time..

WOW! Very nice blank verse! I'm sure you know, it's a common practice to use heroic couplets to complete a stanza, scene, or to emphasize a particular message.
This is exactly the type of entry I was hoping to see. I'm sorry that I have no constructive criticism to offer. You are completely in control of your form, and use it to full effect.
Thank you for entering the contest!

thank you again so very much for this gold-trophy for a poem that means a lot to me ... this form was just perfect for the message I intended to share, and I am glad to have used it ... it wouldn't have had the same effect using the sonnet-form ...
encore merci beaucoup,

maa

Wonderful
I am being taught patience with this comment. This is my third try. MSN keeps shutting down on me.
I have a hero, the Mahatma and both men worked at simplicity and peace. I try to sublimate the ego as much as possible. It takes work. Very fine poem and best of luck to you in this contest.

What a lovely tribute my dear sister. You have penned a thing of beauty in rhyme, meter and structure that can only be out of love. Ramana Maharishi's grace and compassion touched man and animal alike; his eloquent silence made a tremendous impact and you have the inner beauty to recognize and honor that. My hat is off to you.
Love,
Amera &heart;
