It's Quite Unfortunate.

I don’t want to fail to see the good in this
Predicament, This unfortunate situation,
This god damned death sentence,
Because I could learn a thing or two
From what lives off of contempt for me.

Seemingly, I am merely the animal
The simple primitive beast,
The freak of nature evolving
Into a detached unit of a being.

I learn to continue anyway
With my heart and head
And mind in hand but nevertheless,
I become despondent and disillusioned.
Torn and dreading the days.

Look, if I’m going to go down,
Well then sure mister,
Like you care, on your high horse,
You can take me all the way there.

But don’t dangle me between
That high heavenly hope just for me
To meet whatever dust has settled below.
I already know what awaits:
The pit of the reason we are to die alone.

Please tell me what you think

    It's Quite Unfortunate.

Describes this poem very well. I like the fact that in the first stanza you express that we can learn from any situation, no matter how horrible. I've had my share of times when I felt like little more than a primitive animal waiting to evolve. {I learn to continue anyway} our basic instinct is to survive. Despondent, disillusioned, torn and dreading the days. Are you sure you're not describing moments from my past. To bad we can't assure ourselves that we can avoid that "pit of the reason" and not die alone. Alas we never no.

    great!

You are definitely more than a mere animal... but that animal is part of all of us.
