Vanity

Beauty fell, caught in the arms of vanity,
and was held and beheld, by those who
treasured and adored it, forsaking all else,
in thier search, forever seeking perfection.

Dissatisfied with their own endowments
they covet the attributes of others.
Ignoring the requirements involved
they plot to overtake what is not their's.

Cloaking in feathers will not allow flight.
The soaring of a heart freed in freefall
knowing it can change dive to climb at will,
and then rise to joyous elevations.

Earthbound, heavy of heart, at their failure
they still do not regret the fall and loss
only that thier goals are as yet unreached.
And they gather to plot, and try again.

Author notes

I read Midnight Dreams above mine. The poem was a lullaby as well as a poem, It had great imagery and flow. It was a poem that could be enjoyed by all age groups, Would actually be great framed in a nursery. I liked it. AT this time there were none under mine I will check back later.

I really like this one. Fallen beauties in the arms of vanity.. Sounds like American culture. ^_^
