Sailing Into Peaceful Waters

Missing image

Toulon – a harbour-town in Southern France
The place She crossed my path and changed my life
Where war-ships once were sailing to and fro
Metaphor of my struggles and my strife

One cold November-morning She would come
And free me from the war within my mind
In showing me through unconditioned love
The center where my essence I would find

“But who’s this magic lady”, you may ask
“Who knows us better than we’ll ever do ?
What powers does she use to bring this change
Transforming million souls from old to new ?

Her way is “hugging” everyone She meets
This may seem simple, and in this you’re right
Yet She’s not only hugging one or two
But seven-thousand souls within one night

So when I entered first the concert-hall
Transformed into a temple through Her grace
Upon Her sight my heart would jump with joy
Impossible for me to leave that place

There was a scent of holiness and peace
Serenity infusing blissful crowd
Although the helpers looked like busy ants
And Indian music seemed a bit too loud

I saw Her from a distance, dressed in white
Just like a magnet, She’d attract my soul
And while I slowly walked towards Her seat
Her loving arms became my single goal

I felt like I had known Her all my life
While time to me seemed like eternity
A loving mother of the universe
And soon, Her love would change my destiny

My whole existence was despair and pain
Devoid of sense, no happiness I knew
I’d known all sorts of pleasures, joys and fame
Those joys would last maybe a day or two

But everlasting joy I seeked to find
And unconditioned love, not just desire
Through peace profound, like ocean’s secret depths
I hoped to soon relight my weakened fire

Few meters only, and a racing heart
Between us, in this sacred timeless space
Forgetting mother, husband and myself
Surrendered to that present moment’s grace

I looked into Her eyes, but only saw
A cloud of the most brilliant soothing light
Unconscious, I just fell into Her lap
My being tasting ultimate delight

And while I dwelled within this holy space
Immortal nectar filling up my grail
My earthly task revealed before my eyes
Into Her silent port my ship would sail

A greater Love than Her’s I’ve never seen
She is Perfection, Wisdom Incarnate
My fruitless quest has ended at Her feet
For all eternity, Her Name I’ll contemplate

Excellent job. This is probably your best one so far this season.
Good job developing her character throughout the poem, and for me this was really original, because I've never read a poem about this lady- that I can remember of.

I thought your response to that prompt was really good, nicely done.

Thank you for taking me there, reading this made me feel like the prodigal daughter returning home. This is filled with love, warmth and essence of self; it's as beautiful as I knew it would be because it was penned from your soul. This is my favourite of all the poems I've read of yours, well done with this. Love you. Laura x

usually, when I wish to write a poem for amma, I am lacking words ... and even here, the only words that came were simple words, nothing a "real poet" would be proud of ... I just can't express everything I feel inside of me correctly ... I'm like a helpless baby, when it comes to amma ...

your feeling of the "prodigal daughter returning home" is authentic, and I know very well about this feeling and its source ...

thank you for this challenge, it was the greatest gift you could have offered me ...

You don't have to use fancy vocabulary, I felt your words deep within my very soul. True love, devotion and belief require no decoration
