I used to wear hate like a business suit
comfortable in my own self-loathing
and wary of anything with a pulse below the belt.
Then one windy day in September there you were...
Waiting at my doorstep
with eyes like diamonds, that s.p.a.r.k.l.e just for me
[[& this girl jumped over the moon]]
I tried to push you away, make your (stubborn) ass run for the door
instead we ended up in a love that was made for TV
(breathy promises and Elvis-style kisses
following the 11 o'clock news)
Forever-changed in world forever-changing
and yet my mind maintains one truth:
This place is only big enough for a little angel like me
{and any devil I might want to bring along}
Buy the ticket, take the ride baby
I'm in it till the end, sitting shotgun
(with "forever & always" branded on our hearts)
