Beautiful. Tells volumes about the predicament in so few words.

thanks bb - not so sure that the cruel aspect is 'proper' to haiku

unexpected, it just so happened that the morning Jo posted this comp. the cat had delivered a mouse to the terrace

.... I just watched - maybe I should have intervened

It's to hear the thumping of the cat's clawed paw against the floor teasing that poor mouse.

Thank you for this entry to the contest, and thank you also for the link you included in your comment below--You can be sure I'll visit the site!

      thanks Jo

That link (and the rest of the site) is probably the easiest to follow tuition of modern English haiku that I have discovered.
I know with haiku it is a little subjective and there are other opinions - I just happen to agree with the spirit of this one.

    excellent !
this reminds me of the style of haiku I have admired in jane reichhold's book about haiku, I am not sure they were from basho, but I guess they were ...
I'm still an ignorant student unable to comment properly on haiku, but am feeling that this is a haiku of greatness ...

Thank you Marion. I keep returning to an excellent resource when I stray from basics and I like simplicity in haiku

      http://www.haiku.insouthsea.co.uk/teachshow_s1.htm

      written by George Marsh

The section 'show don't tell' helped me immensely.

      Regards

I have bookmarked it for studying ...
I'm very good at telling instead of showing , so this will help immensely ...
