Author notes

These were the opening stanzas of the mess song we used to sing in Iraq in 1941/44 to relieve the boredom. Normally on a Saturday night.
This had to be sung with a full pint of ale balanced on one`s head, while mounting a chair, one leg at a time. If successful then dismounting had to be accomplished, to applause.
It is advisable to roll up any carpets first.
Thanks for taking me back 65 years.

Very amusing to think of these soldiers standing on chairs with a beer balanced on their head, singing this childs song that has been rewritten to fit the men singing it.

I can hear you singing this...

I think you are so nice to pen this old tune because it is so fine to hear it playing in my head. Thanks for the memories. PLUS, I loved reading your author notes.
