Smoking Killed Him Slowly

He was one of the handsome men I have ever seen,
with all those good qualities.
He was a great father, cricketer and a scholar.
But unfortunately he was a smoker.
Smoking killed him slowly,
hour by hour and day by day.
So that cigarette companies can make profit,
out of my uncle’s death.
Incurable cancer entered his body,
attacked his bladder and then the whole body.
So at the end he was defeated by cancer,
which is the cruellest penalty for a smoker.

Author notes

Dedicated to my maternal uncle Late Shahadat Jamil who died this year.

Its a heart-wrenching thing..death from cancer. I get really worried about my mother because she's smoked for so long and she won't take a hint. My grandmother died of lung cancer and later on that year a family friend of ours died from cancer also. I'm sorry about your uncle, I know how hard it must be to see a member of the family go through that pain. Thanks for posting this!

This is so touchy and sad.I'm sorry for your uncle. I think this poem will hammer the smokers, who smoke knowing or without knowing about the harmful effects. I'll show this poem my father. Though he has stopped smoking now by thr grace of Allah, I'll show it to tell him how harmful a way he used as his habit last few years.

Anyways it was really a great write.

Your poem reminded me of my maternal grandfather who died of lungs cancer, it occured of course because of excessive smoking and just yesterday it has been 1 year since he is no more in this world. This poem was a sincere dedication to your uncle. I really hope that such poems grow some awareness in smokers who do not know anything but cigarettes. The last two lines of the poem are impressive in a dark way-

"So at the end he was defeated by cancer,
which is the cruellest penalty for a smoker."

    I also liked the title.
