I swear I am not the devil.

She awoke, she was five.
sugar cane treats for breakfast,
Hot dogs for lunch,
The music blared and the insanity was given.
She was an adult in the body of a six year old.
Then there was no breakfast,
no lunch,
supper was handed in the pages of a magazine.
The pope was on the front cover.
And she didn't own a bible.

Then the nightmares would come,
the voices would speak,
her friends would run,
she was the mirrors cracked freak.

A day, she was ten and scribbled on a bread paper packet.
A horrible scribble.
The doctor was called.
She was alright but too much had happened.
too much had been done.
the desert eagle had blown away the last bullet of innocence.
Her father had watched.
Her mother had fought.

She had begged for pennies in return for tears.
The neighbours always changed,
Or perhaps she did,
They moved,
Packed and moved,
Nomads.
Everyone knew.

They ran from the sugar cane treats,
And that year the pope died,
Millions fell to their knees,
So did she
But not for him,
A different man, who was not a man.

But he would never shed a tear,
Her mother would never understand.
So she ran.
And stared into four dirty walls,
Where her supper would be the pages of the magazine,
The new pope was on the cover,
and she still did not own a bible.
