Forget the hallelujah

There’s not a prayer in this world that can save you
Now I’m losing the memories what more can I do
You took my heart and threw it away but I grew strong
I let my heart love someone again so I moved along

Yet every time I see your face it takes me back to the place
Where we shared our very last embrace
I realise there is nothing left for me to hold on to
There is no longer a feeling that I hold that is true

Now you are gone I don’t know why I sleep
And you are not the one that I meet in my dreams
For there is a heart now that I can trust to keep
Me from the nightmares and the blood curdling screams
So all the angels in the night come and they say to me
Forget the hallelujah you were told by thee

Love is something that taught what to believe
When it was right to smile and when it was right to grieve
Now I have found a love that will not pretend
To take my heart and then let it descend

To a heaven that only exists in your mind
Now I will not let the illusion make me blind
For the power it once had is now just a memory
That can only survive though the heart of me

Now you are gone I don’t know why I sleep
And you are not the one that I meet in my dreams
For there is a heart now that I can trust to keep
Me from the nightmares and the blood curdling screams
So all the angels in the night come and they say to me
Forget the hallelujah you were told by thee

Hallelujah is the word forever upon my lips
The sound trapped inside of my kiss
Hallelujah is the feeling that I hold from the past
For it was a beauty that will always last

Now you are gone I don’t know why I sleep
And you are not the one that I meet in my dreams
For there is a heart now that I can trust to keep
Me from the nightmares and the blood curdling screams
So all the angels in the night come and they say to me
Forget the hallelujah you were told by thee

Author notes

Love is not a victory march, it's a cold and
it's a broken hallelujah

I love this poem. I wish I could say the same, that I've moved on. But it's just really hard to do. Thank you soo much for entering my contest.

As my co-host said - I really like the repeating part. It makes the whole piece so strong.
One thing I was wondering about. In the line:
"That can only survive though the heart of me"
don't you mean "through"? Or is it really "though"?

Powerful emotions. The flow is good I just think it'd be better with shorter lines. I love the repeating parts.
    Good luck in the contest.
