Is it like a night at a lake,
Underneath the bright glowing disc of a full moon,
The silvery light of the moon dancing like fairies upon the shimmers of the water below,
The whole world asleep
Save for frogs croaking along the banks
Cloistered behind high green ferns,
Crickets hidden,
Chirping their nightly serenade to all those who lend an ear
Invisible in the shelter of large oak trees,
Their branches reaching strongly up to the cool, crisp night
The blue birds all asleep,
Nestled atop in the sanctity of their secure protective branches,
The stars light above,
Little white bulbs shining down on the world,
Turned on as soon as the crimson sun sets
Under the providence of the Caretaker,
White wispy clouds high above everything
Gently sailing through the lit sky,
High above you,
Sitting on the old wooden porch
Looking out to it all.
Did you ever wonder what heaven is like...
Is it like flying through the universe,
High above,
Unbound through space,
Seeing the moon slowly circling the blue-green earth,
Millions of countless small lights around below,
The planets round, like giant marbles
All swinging freely around the great red sun,
With balls of fire,
Red and crimson,
Shooting upwards and arcing down
Bright arcs of fire ablaze in space,
As sun and moon dance the eternal heavenly dance,
Unseen by those on earth.
Did you ever wonder what heaven is like..
Is it like the Elysian fields,
After boarding off the river Styx
Guided by the boatman Charon,
Arriving at a beautiful land aglow,
By sea-blue streams and rivers
Flowing through bright lush lands of green pastures and meadow,
Greeted by the sweet enchanting strings of the lyre of Orpheus on the golden sands of time
People of all age and kind,
With white halos around their neck,
Playing and dancing under the wide shady trees,
Drinking sweet wine and savouring fresh fruits,
All at the foot of the great mount Olympus.
Did you ever wonder what heaven is like..
Is it like a celestial hall,
Surrounded by angels, pure and true,
Large white soft wings a mount their backs,
Long curly golden hair falling down
Amidst their bright white glowing gown,
All aligned in heavenly arcs,
Playing their tall trumpets,
Heralding the most high with their song.
Or maybe it's like...
Like it is now,
The night so cool,
So silent
With only me lying next to you,
Your head asleep,
Resting atop my shoulder,
Me watching you sleep so sweetly,
Wondering how I could find the courage so true,
To tell with all my heavens and heart,
Baby,
I love you.

You seem to appreciate beauty all around. This is another wonderful write. I think Heaven would be all of those things, since each of those sound like a bit of heaven on earth. Excellent imagery in your poem, a pleasure to read.

This one really floats! I liked the way you used some repitition of words from one line to the next...created a really nice flow(and i don't usually like that...but it worked here). You have some really ethereal images going on...very nice stuff

Wow, that's strong. Whoever you are talking about is very lucky. I especially like the whole tie in with Greek Mythology, I have a true love for the stories. You are very descriptive, and I loved this.
