A rendition of truth –
Their own
Often babbled
In apish accents
For a little girl in the clan
Doomed by the heavens
Bereaved of words
For some people’s sake
A sufferer –
Of certain quirks
Accused as a devil,
For an impish black spot
On the little pink tongue
The cursed one –
Black tongued.

Author notes
This is one belief I hate. Some people are believed to be black-tongued in some parts of my country and are actually deprived of normal speech! It is believed that such people are cursed and whatever evil they speak comes true.

Well done
That is a bit disturbing to read the story behind this belief. However your poem is not distrubing it is very well written. Thank you for sharing -
I did not know about this belief, and I am sorry for any child who is labelled for something beyond her control.
I can feel the emotional pain, judgment and invalidation are terrible. A good serious poem.

Wow, that is a creepy thought. I have not heard of this one but be a cultural thought. Your poem is well written and speaks upon the subject very well.
