The “Peculiar Institution”,
Is what it was called.
For it to survive,
The “North” had to fall.
It divided many families,
Away from their kin.
Looking back in our history,
You can see it began.
How could Humanity,
Have been so cruel?
When back in a time,
Owning slaves was thought cool.
The dignity that was stolen,
Has been hard to get back.
When enslaved for so long,
Kind of throws you off track!
But an on going battle,
Things had to be taught,
That humans are “HUMAN”,
And they shouldn’t be bought.
It’s shameful to think,
That it lasted so long.
Before people finally realized,
THAT SLAVERY WAS WRONG!

I can't relate cause I am not black but man those poor people had it rough. It is hard to fathom how it all began and why. So stupid if you ask me. Excellent write. And still today you get crap for being the color you are.
All the sterotypes. Just flat out sucks. I hate it when people talk about my family in such a way i put up a fight to protect them. I have a black uncle and cousins, an a puerto rican black aunt with cousins, as well as other nationality and races in my family.

Yeah, My family tree has Black, White, and Indian. Shit I guess the black blood has had to endure the most in my lifetime. The attitudes don't even much bother me any longer.

Such a terribly bloody war for the purpose of owning another human being. Indeed, how could it have lasted so long? Powerful expression here.
