Pervading Gloom

Pervading Gloom

Devoid of all feeling
Numb to the touch
Nothing before
Could have hurt me so much

Senses are reeling
Mind in a whirl
Days into weeks into months
Seem to swirl

Daytime and night time
I can’t tell apart
Nothing but blackness
Can enter my heart

Words that are spoken
Seem pointed and barbed
Like wolves in the clothing of sheep
They are garbed

Lies and deceit
Are my water and bread
Though lacking a hunger
I’m constantly fed

Once in a while
There’s a flicker of light
But then it is snuffed
Like a candle at night

Dwelling in darkness
With everything bleak
Only the comfort of death
Can I seek

But even for that
I cannot meet the task
Through lacking the spirit
To gain what I ask

My destiny now
Is to languish alone
To dwell in this darkness
That now be my home

A powerful poem with excellent imagery. poignant and tragic when one experiences these feelings! A very emotive and heartfelt poem.
