She was only 7, bless.
She traveled 100 miles to join me,
for her grandparents golden wedding party.
We invested so much enthusiasm for this great event of the year.
She had a new flowered dress, and cherry patent shoes.
Her rehearsal for this sacred day, was undertaken with relish.
The day of the hallowed party arrived .
I quivered with excitement ,
but she, little mite became unwell.
A panic attack choked her, and she welled up.
"Call mummy" dad, i need to go home .
Mother came, and as i waved farewell to my little one.
Unfamiliar, alien tears filled my face .
I went indoors and wept for an age.
I sat and wept for an age .
I walked and wept for an age .
I crouched and wept for an age .
I laid and wept for an age
When the tear storm passed i regained a composure .
I attended the festivities alone.
Alone without my little princess.
To the "golden" celebration of the year .
