There was a grasshopper
by which I described a new motion
every day I played with her.
Her name was Galaxy
because of her black and white spots,
the one who became my lil gal...
once I had seen her eat
for ten minutes sometimes.
One event that still sticks to my mind
from her pops out like static hair
because when I'd hear crinkly noise,
it was usually resulted by
Galaxy eating dried daikon radish.
Playtime was not reduced with
my friend, because I sometimes
dragged my hair softly over her
to get her to jump when she was sedentary.
I used to communicate with Galaxy
in a way by reading the alphabet of her actions.
I played that she'd say, "you aren't fair
to a "grasshoppair" as a rhyme when
I'd brush her with my bristly growth
past the top of my head.
Galaxy went to parties so to speak
with the other grasshoppers on a huge lettuce leaf
that quickly diminished,
but then stopped
at the stem.
It was also cute to me when each
of my pet hoppers would wait their turn
to come and do a mouth rock 'n' roll dance
if Galaxy or somebody else
were having their enjoyments
at the table that was net-like
because it had hollow circles everywhere
on the surface of the lettuce leaf
caused from mandibles
drilling through for at least a moment.
She made a milestone marker
when she kept surviving through
the coldest points of winter,
and each sunny day, I'd offer Galaxy
a window to bathe in a natural
yellow, shiny bath tub.
To me, I found an amazing height of skill
every time I'd put one other of Orthoptera,
who was named True Race Car,
in the clear vertical piece of stone
at the opposite side
of where I'd lay Galaxy
because, two minutes later,
I'd find them both cuddling each other
side-by-side... were they friends
themselves, I thought?!
My mamma and I built natural carpet
in the night cage graciously
for all the grasshoppers
using curly comfy dried leaves
shaping around each other like a puzzle,
but it puzzled us how we'd find Galaxy
on the cold metal in the morn.
When she and I figured out how to fill it in,
the picture was completed of a warm house
showing off our hot care for her.
Galaxy often climbed on the side
of the mesh cover which had no food,
but our understanding made us pack vines
around so much that she would run into
the food, yay!
Yes, Galaxy was only one insect reception
of my many little happiness giveaways,
although the only two things that didn't educate
my ego
from her was when Galaxy would flick
frass to my eye, and when she'd
shovel her ovipositors right into my skin.

This poem is very cute. Do not change a thing! I loved the 'grasshoppair' rhyme. You seem extremely knowledgeable about grasshoppers and insects in general. There are a few words that I may have to get out my dictionary for because I am not familiar with them like: mandibles (heard the word before but can't exactly picture what a mandible is) and Orthoptera, frass and ovipositors. I am very impressed with the language you have used. It seems excelled for someone under 14 or perhaps I am just extremely ignorant when it comes to insects. lol
Btw, I LOVE the name Galaxy. It is such a cool name for a very unique pet.
Thank you for entering my contest and please forgive me for taking so long to judge.
Sincerely,
Breelynn

Cute! Looks like you and your grasshopper have a strong bond. My favorite part was when you did the little rhyme:
"You aren't fair to a 'grasshoppair'". This poem is so adorable!
