Psalm 93

Jehovah reigns: He has shown Himself
Divine in strength and majesty:
The earth You made abides from ancient times.
But You are from eternity,
O Jehovah, our God.

The floods have lifted up, O Lord, their voice
The floods lift tumult to the sky,
They fling their pounding waves upon the shore.
More mighty is the Lord on high,
O Jehovah, our God.

The Lord has given witness of Himself:
His glorious works confirm His Word;
Our God is true. Then holiness forevermore
Is fitting to Your household, Lord,
O Jehovah, Our God.

Author notes

The Book of Psalms in the Bible is a collection of poems, most of which were meant to be sung. In the New Testament, believers are encouraged to sing these Psalms. The words are passionate, honest, and picturesque. Nowadays the kind of music that people can readily sing in church doesn't fit the style of translated psalms, so a lot of songwriters are trying to fit the old psalms into meter and/or rhyme in order to make them singable. The task is difficult. This is one example of what I've been able to do so far. I'll give the original psalm so anyone can compare the two. The translation is from the New American Standard Bible.
The LORD reigns, he is clothed with majesty;
The LORD has clothed and girded Himself with strength;
Indeed, the world is firmly established, it will not be moved.
Your throne is established from of old;
You are from everlasting.

The floods have lifted up, O LORD,
The floods have lifted up their voice,
The floods lift up their pounding waves.
More than the sounds of many waters,
Then the mighty breakers of the sea,
The LORD on high is mighty.
Your testimonies are fully confirmed;
Holiness befits Your house,
O LORD, forevermore.

One note - in the NASB, the sacred personal name of God (which I have transliterated Jehovah in the traditional way but which has a different spelling in reality - something like 'Yahweh') is denoted by the word "LORD" - in capital letters, thus.

    I absolutely love the Psalms and Proverbs as well. I raised my sons on Proverbs. I felt like it was a tool for teaching them to be better people. Good write.
