Suspended Belief

Boom box bangin out a hip-hop beat
City awakes when reality sleeps
Demolition derby dancin down the street
Everybody hidin but nobody seeks
Light flash, boom crash, see you next time
For another episode of so-called sublime
Life's a stage with improvisational lines
Everyone clap for the show to be polite
Wax on, wax off with the windshield wipers
Depression means not being consistently hyper
Mental manias mislabeled by pitiful pied pipers
Nations owned by political snipers
Duck for cover when the sun goes down
If no one's there to laugh, why be a clown?
Claim impossibilities, don't worry why or how
Put a gun to your head and live in the now

Author notes

Hopefully this makes sense to someone besides me - most of the lines after the first two are references to something specific, some more overtly than others.

Great poem, this poem has a lot of anger in it, towards various aspects of society, and I couldn't help but agree. The imagery and diction are also superb.Great work and thank you for entering.
