I didn't really know you,
But I saw you out and about
I'm sorry you are not with us
You've touched someone no doubt.
I bring some simple daisies
To lay by your resting place
And try to conjure up an image
Of your happy face.
I smile and whisper softly
"You take care, you hear?"
And hope you are in peace
And will shed no more tears.
Alas, I will shed some,
I did not know you while I could
Now you lie in consecrated ground
Sheltered by the woods.
"Please forgive me," I cry
"I did not know you more,"
But still I wish you good fortune
In your next life and more.
I lie my flowers on your grave
And wipe the tears from my eyes,
"You will live on in memory,
Goodbye, dear acquaintance, goodbye"
