The Search

The lout stands out boldly proud in school crowd
He shows his skills with folding blade that kills
Mr Brown wears a frown,  "That bastard kid's back in town."
His class disrupted, the world corrupted
Mr Smith he calls, both will act tall.
Lout curls a lip, swings a hip.
They try to pull him from the crowd.
"We're searching you, it is allowed."
"Geroff, you buggers, wot's mine is mine."
Attempt to search for hidden shiv
He's small and quick, won't let them live
Two searchers stare blind at cloudless sky.
"Told you sods I'd make you die."
Crowd slips away fondling own tools
Of protection from bladeless teaching fools.
Staff room braces for the news
"You can search for knives but stay in twos.

Truly a shame that we live in times where such measures must be taken. Here, in America, I think they need to crack down more what with all the deaths that have been caused of late, school children being massacred by there own and teachers being gunned down by students. Sadly how this world has changed. I very much enjoyed this and I adored the rhyme scheme and change in the middle. It didn't affect the meter at all, stayed smooth the whole time.

    All the best,
    Bella

Thanks, Bella, for thoughtful ideas. I guess it is the same in the States as here nowadays. We have what seems like constant knife killings by CHILDREN on children. Of couyrse it is notn an epidemic but it sure feels like it. I am glad I left schoolmastering twenty years ago - it was turnin sour even then. Long winded way of "double" agreeing with you. Thanks again.

You are most welcome. I have to agree with your statement, it certainly does feel like an epidemic.

Not sure I like the format - you rhyme within the line in the first 6 lines ; then revert to consequent line rhyming.
However, an emotive subject, and a frightening finale - moreso because it's only too real these days, particularly where I currently live in Greater Manchester (you're well out of it in The Dales - God's country).
    Robin.
    PS Have the clap though!

Thanks, Robin, for the thoughtful notes on THE SEARCH. I used (God help me) to be in education and it was bad enough then (near on twenty years ago). I just couldn't (too lazy) maintain the initial rhyme scheme.
      Regards Donald
