If my shadow could only talk oh the things it would tell
Of every little piece of heaven, every chunk of hell
You’d know everything hidden, every secret inside
All the pity, the crying, the lack of pride
The things I tell myself in my own image reflected
The way I let things become far too neglected
I’m just keeping this shell of a body intact
So those around me don’t overreact
You would understand every lyric and rhyme
My shadow would tell you my state of mind
This isn’t your ordinary, “woe is me, I’m sorry”
You could see through young distraught eyes
How the tunnel of light is filled with lies
Promises lay on the broken path to life
Just like a “friend” sharpens the knife
The one no one suspected would strike
If my shadow could speak it would sing my song
Of minor relativity, of what could have gone wrong
Who knows the answer, it’s all a different philosophy
For now my shadow and I are on the road to discover “me”

Very nicely done. The rhyme and meter flow smoothly. I found myself relating to the words you penned here. Great use of imagery here. You gave an almost mirror reflection of what your shadow sees and what you try to conceal.
Amazing how one phrase can inspire such insightful work.
Thank you for sharing and best of luck to you in the contest. May your pen always flow...
