Little Cat

I saw a little wooden cat in the Goodwill store
and she told me as soon as I picked her up
that if I bought her and brought her home
she would protect my house.

She even showed me a little picture in my head of
exactly where she’d like to sit
on my kitchen counter looking over it all.

I was thinking at the time that I had bought her
for my mom and was already envisioning
wrapping her carefully and sending her off,
but she was having none of that!

She slid out of her plastic bag
and I found her riding around happily
in the back of my car today,
so I picked her up and brought her in…

Mom’s package has already been sent so
I guess she’ll get her way and be sitting on
the kitchen counter watching over it all anyway.

Funny that.

The infusion of imagery and tender, thoughtful emotions flowing across the page here makes for a very powerful piece of poetry. May you continue to let your thoughts flow freely and keep that pen handy!

Lovely poem. While reading it, it felt like I was reading a poem from a little book of 'pick me up poems'.

Aw so sweet. Good imagery...This is such a sweet poem. Nicely written. Such a simple poem, but so good. Very well written...Puts a slight smile on my face. And those last two words are great.

I dont't usually like the word "charming" when applied to poetry--but it fits here. Gentle, velvety tone coupled with an image-set that matches it.

I love cats and I love goodwill stores! How could I not love this poem!

I like the last line - Funny that. - you are obviously a true cat person to appreceiate the fact that as per usual the cat got it's own way, contrary to your original wishes!

I wish you and your little cat all the best!
