Why can I not be
As beautiful as she?
Her face is like an exquisite diamond,
Featured perfectly, with a nose no human could recreate,
And a lovely pink mouth,
Like a velvet rose soft with dew.
And her eyes are the color of a deep azure ocean
Under long lashes like the midnight sky.
Her waves of hair cascade down her back,
A milk chocolate brown with streaks of gold-
The color of honey reflecting the sun
With a lock free to frame her face...
So soft is that silken hair
That she flaunts with such haughty pride-
And she bats her curly lashes
Which accentuate her almond shaped eyes.
I loathe her, that gem, that jewel of beauty
And so I curl my fingers around an ash grey rock,
Ready to destroy the diamond that haunts me,
The face that torments me...
I clutch my weapon, poised to kill
And release with such rage and relief,
The face is lost in ripples of blue
And I am finally at peace–
Until the surface smoothes
And I am again face to face with my demon.
I should have known that I cannot overcome her,
For no rock can defeat a diamond.
