hearts beating
against flesh and bone
journeying faraway from home
as sister night begins to gloam
dimming daylight skies
ravines shrieking
from moss-covered pines
mock the wisdoms of the wise
disturbing spirits intending to malign
benign idioms of brother sun
hearts beating
hammer heaving chests
night's lover morpheus
denies them rest
soon sleeplessness decays tired minds
unraveling in winds of time
... and yet they travel on
hearts beating
pulses flip and roll
as brother sun gives up his soul
conceding to the darkened pull
of sister night
damp and tired they carry on
praying for the light of dawn
beneath the watchful eye of a smirking moon
curved in a wicked grin
... darkness is soul withering

i like the familiar relationship between the night and day. this is almost fantasy-like and I truly enjoyed this.
great work.
