I found myself in a
Dungeon so deep
Death all around
Walls so steep
Looking up, I saw
A small window near the very top
I couldn’t climb the wall
Shuddered to think of the drop
So I lay me down
In a quagmire of sin
It stunk so bad
I grew so thin
Nothing to eat
No help for me
Not a single friend
I just stared at the window
There my tears begin
I hated the window
I hated the sin
I just stared at the window
Where my tears begin
I could have lived in the darkness
Without any hope
I could have lived in the darkness
Could have learned to cope
I looked at that window
Where the light came in
Hating that window
Hating my sin
Staring at the window
Where my tears begin
I pondered inside
Who could be so cruel
To place a window
In a prison room
A window too far
A window too high
For a prisoner of sin
To even try
Hating the window
Hating the sin
Hating myself
The tears begin
A gentle Voice spoke,
“I put the window
Within your view
The window is there
For you to come through
Your sin too deep
The window too high
So you sit in your sin
You sit and you cry
If you just ask
I’d bring the window to you
You can climb out
Or you can look through
The window is yours
It’s all up to you”
Still, I hated the window
But not like I hated my sin
I needed this window
Like I needed a friend
Please grant me the window
Let this darkness end
He brought me the window
With its light so true
I couldn’t just look
I had to climb through
The world was so lovely
I cannot explain
The way that this light
Took away all my pain
Dungeon so deep
Death all around
Walls so steep
Looking up, I saw
A small window near the very top
I couldn’t climb the wall
Shuddered to think of the drop
So I lay me down
In a quagmire of sin
It stunk so bad
I grew so thin

Author notes
Spiritual Splendor is not semantics. It is a hearfelt journey. Ultimately it is the 'simple' moment when the weight of this world rolls off your shoulders.

Beautiful!
This is amazingly beautiful! I can relate to this kind of deep pain, and the journey to rise up out of it. I love the way this poem reads. Great job! Blessings, Patty

The Window is from early days and has been a hit among so many readers here and outside this site. We cave ourselves into our own holes and trap ourselves in our own prisons. There really is a window, and most just hate it, I love it. Most hate it because they despise the fact that there is a light, a way out. We as humans would rather complain about our circumstances and curse the thought of that light shining above that seems unreachable. It is not unreachable at all. If you allow it, it will come to you where you are. RC

Wow... Love this write Uncle Robin! I still wish you would use more punctuation, but it's my own nit pick
I love the lines you repeated--they are the best to me. And the ending, the ending is something special. I feel like your title is one of which you just put down. It's not one of your strongest points. Maybe--instead of saying "the window"... you could say something about the symbolism in the poem, or even just what the window symbolizes or could symbolize. Ah well--just my own ravings--I loved it! Wonderful job

Let me start by saying that you Author notes said it all...To me spirituality is a heartfelt journey and that is why I started this contest...You never know who ends up reading one of these poems and it touches there hearts and just maybe they take the journey as we have
Now on the poem...I was completely bowled over...It was so beautiful and what a great way to express the pain in your life and the choices you had...Sit and wallow or follow the Father...It is a blessing of a poem
Thank you so very much for entering my contest and I wish you only the best of luck
Much Love

Ps: I am not a fan of rhyming poetry as I am a free verse poet myself but this was an excellent rhyming poem... -
awesome!
I love this piece. This is something that can only be written by someone who has been down to those depths and then crawled back up. One can't imagine this without having lived it. I love the rhythm and rhyming of this, it flows along at just the right pace to give this piece it's power. An excellent write my friend. Spirituality is indeed a journey.
