I.     Earthbound

Mortal man plagued with theories in thought,
desired to be an individual before eyes
of Higher Powers with restitution
cradled in hands and heart
to bring forth rebirth.

Past afflictions he asked with sincerity
before gossamer guides in prayer~
if opportunity could be given,

a moment to emulate in task
those whom have touched his Soul?

Many that walk this Earth endure strife
and if he could relieve the suffering of some;
how much of a difference that would make.

Day and night he dreamt,
soaring with birds of prey~

taking to the skies, effortlessly.

His illness could not stop him
from dreaming.

Life meant more than living, breathing
on Sacred Earth but to bring closer
Man and his Savior.

With a Death sentence given years ago,
no cure found yet;
meaning to everything around him shifted.

Some gave up Hope while others offered
their tears since his had siphoned dry
since the news made him numb.

A few remained, followed alongside~
Loyal and Appreciative
to have him as a friend
while others
turned their backs
which brought a new outlook
in his perception.

Love defined differently,
worn on sleeve along with Pride
to be unique, be truthful to self
and not conform to society’s stereotypes
of ignorance taught also learned.

Everyday became a challenge faced
but when he peered through windows

of those he loved;
Life became more than air through the lungs.

II.     Immortality

Light followed him wherever he walked
around street corners and in darkest
of alleyways.

When he could not stand on his two feet,
another pair of hands lifted him
from the bed when it became difficult
and painful to move.

Daily chores grew tiresome
for physically he was weakened
with strikes from within his own body
working against him
yet mentally,
he thrived to taste, use all senses
to their fullest abilities.

One night, words seeped from parched lips-

[ Die, I  just want to die ]

Reverberated throughout his veins
into the horizon
where doves with urgent messages
were disrupted while in flight.

One descended to be by his side
as darkness slowly engulfed
his home.

[ Can’t take this pain anymore, please help! ]

Echoed through walls of his breached Sanctuary
while fluttering outside
stopped him momentarily.

Since he could not reach the highest cliffs,
become one with his Spirit guide
then he felt his purpose in Life
had no purpose.

[ I believe in you, do you believe in me? ]

Time stood still for a brief minute
which seemed like hours
as Light pushed darkness outwards.

Air circulated within the room
to cleanse of impurities
but also for flight to take place.

Virgin eyes stroked his flesh gently
in awe at this Man before them
with ‘temporary’ chestnut plumage
extended
beyond the bed’s surface;
which his frame lay silently upon

in deep sleep.

When he awakens,
the eagles will be waiting
to be alongside their equal.

A masterpiece!! I love this poem so much! It gives the goose bumps a chance to go nuts! I felt this creative piece down to my heels and came away at the end with a look at the most beloved feeling of peace in my mind and heart. You my dear friend have a very special gift for saying what others can only feel. The words chosen and the style that forms this precious artfilled write are so well combined it gives your reader the feeling and thought in mind the pic is alive and the heavens are open and waiting. So beautiful!! I am thrilled to read it again and again. Bless you my dear for the heart behind the art, Don

'Life meant more than living, breathing

Life meant more than living, to his very essence. To once again soar with the eagles as he waited for them to come! Very interesting take on this contest and very well written poem indeed. ~Sie
