Day trippers

Looking through a monocle
half seeing faces.
Glimpsing dancing daisies
growing on grass verges.
Pale skinned trippers,
seaside waders.
Open their mouths,
to sample the oysters.
Candy floss, ice cream,
chips in newspapers.
Blackpool, lettered rock,
and open Umbrellas.
Macca was the Walrus
John wrote the chorus.
Kiss me quick, hats,
from Paper back writers.
Tired and happy, those
holiday Day-trippers.

Incredibly well crafted. The punctuation seemed perfectly placed,(I know that is probably a strange comment, but nevertheless). I feel like punctuation is the most difficult thing to get right writing free verse. It sounded a bit Kerouac-esque in a Beatles sort of way. Well done.

    Favorite line:
    "Glimpsing dancing daisies
    growing on grass verges."

    peace,

Thank you so much for your lovely comments.
One great thing about this site is that you
get introduced to new ideas and poets etc.,
Kerouac is one of those new names for me.
I have always thought the Beatles were great
      poets as well as musicians.

      Best wishes
      Dixie

Yes! I was waiting for someone to use that! Hehe, great piece, I feel like you referenced the song quite a bit, but this has a point... very nice. I didn't expect a poem that used that to have a point. Good luck!
