Once there lived a lively soul
who was, many moons ago
while the earth was warm and young
when the wind blew free upon
undeterred imaginings
traveling far, as journeyed he
to distant realms and distant seas
returning with treasures fair
until, by trials of jealousy
he fell into their wanton lair
chained in darkness, evil crept
across the land he loved and knew,
time eternal changes bore,
he escaped, but not before
the world he knew was battered, torn…
locked away for such a length
away from those he might have loved
everything he had was taken,
broken, lost in dim destruction
rending from his heart the ties
to everything he'd ever known…
He closed his heart to further pain,
from those he loved, long carried away
to loveless places, dying slowly
as was he, in streams of lonely
moments in the emptiness
where eyes are shut to hide despair…
thunder rolled, lightening lit
the rain in heavy sheets of sorrow
yet he lifted up his head
in a chance he'd see tomorrow...
on a distant hill, he saw
a figure introspect, serene,
and, judging by her shadowed air,
lost in distant thought, like he…
long-suppressed emotions rose
to again allowed a hope
to rise above the arid plain
and soar to where it did not rain
as recently as yesterday;
two figures mirrored nascent stirrings
uncertain, frightful, insecure
searching for unlikely cures
perhaps, as in a written scene
to find the one in life we seek-
one to love, one like me.
