Just Yesterday (Gone Forever)

Just yesterday I walked away,
kissed, soft, your cheek, "Goodbye."
Just yesterday, I held you close.
Today, the day you died.

Just yesterday, I promised you
I'd never let you go.
I held on tight, but still you drifted
far across the world... Alone.

Just yesterday, your smile stretched
from wall to wall inside this room.
Only yesterday we spoke.
Today, away you flew.

Just yesterday, it seems, at least
I looked into your eyes.
Thinking, most indefinitely,
we'd speak some other night...

Just yesterday, the laughs pervaded
empty souls, to fill them well.
Can't believe we'll never speak,
--the things I'll never tell.

Just yesterday, I stood
before your bed
while you slept,
safe and tight;
Now, I stand before your grave...
a peaceful, endless, lifeless night.

Just yesterday, although it seems
it was a million years ago,
I held you close, and said to you,
I'll Never Let You Go.

Just yesterday, life was unfolding...
now it's locked away so tight,
in a casket made of wood...
beneath the ground, your room tonight.

Gone from me without a whisper,
Yesterday's life is a corpse for the day....
miss you more than anything,
a life should never end this way.

Just yesterday, we sang a song
loudly, with the radio on.
Off-key, but smiling, to the mall...
And now, there is no sound at all...

Just yesterday, this room was busy,
active with the days events...
Never once did I think hard
that this may be the end.

Just yesterday I had you.
Today, you're gone for good.
I'd give it all for one more word.
I promised I'd never forget you.
And I never, ever could.
