I had my lunch and packed the food away
and then I heard a voice inside of me,
that told me: “Watch your purse!” I said: "Okay".
My purse I could not find. Where could it be?
I went out, checked the car and found it there
but still the voice repeated: “Watch your purse!”
I said: “It's in my bag!” It warned: “Beware!”
I found my green purse gone. Oh! That was worse!
I rushed outside towards the car again
“Oh please let it be there!” My heart stood still.
It lay beside the car on grass and when
I picked it up to look I saw the bills.
My eyes lit up to see the money there:
six hundred dollars just drawn from the bank.
Relieved and breathless, I could only stare
and offer to my guides my heartfelt thanks.
Two hours my purse had lain upon the ground;
incredibly no passer-by could see
it laying there. By me alone 'twas found
beside the car beneath the neighbour’s tree.
A girl went past as I walked back inside;
a cycling boy and workmen from next door.
I felt so happy - tears of joy I cried -
to lose so much would leave me feeling poor.
If you hear voices whisper in your ear,
take heed! Your guides are telling you to hear.
Author notes
I chose # 2
I consider this to be a lucky event in my life I had parcels in back seat passengers side and when I lifted groceries out I must’ve dropped my little purse out onto the grass
between the footpath and the gutter. It was school holidays, workmen were in the house next door.
There’s normally people walking by at all times
My 1st bag was my Black handbag which I’d left
on the backseat on drivers side, so I never went to passenger side. And when I walked back inside after finding my green purse,a lady walked past, a boy riding a bike. The workers came out, the street was busy again.
This is a rewrite of a poem I wrote back in 2003

sixth sense!
If you hear voices whisper in your ear,
take heed! Your guides are telling you to hear" Wonderful! It is the sixth sense that makes us alert before we fall a prey to bad events. It strikes me that even in good things that happen by Divine wish make us alert like this. In love we get message from the angels in Heaven and we fallin love. We simply say,'Love is blind" Love is divine, but not blind, i say.

Congratulations!
My sweet soul sister!
Another Lucky Day for you!
Love,

You are very lucky! Whenever I lost money, I had no warnings about it. However, your premonitions turned out to be accurate - a "fishy" feeling should not be ignored. Your story moved along briskly, well done!

-
I'd call this a stroke of luck, too, Joan. How fortunate for you to not have lost all your money plus whatever other items you may have had in your purse.
You told this story well, just right to not sound rhetorical or contrived, but told in a way to keep the eader on the edge of he seat.

Dee

Dear A/J,
It certainly was your lucky day as I know it was the wages for the week and it would've been hard to explain to bob how you lost it. it does pay to listen when they whisper in your ear. Very lovely Sonnet dear A/J.
love Hine.

-
Definitely your LUCKY day!
My dear soul sister,
How fortunate you were that your wallet lay unnoticed for two hours and it's a good thing you 'pay attention' to that little voice so many of us ignore. I'm happy your story had a happy ending so you could tell us about your LUCKY day!
Love,
Maureen

Dear NON from OZ
Yes, I think we call all relate to occurences like this. Take today for instance. I went and had my hair done, then went shopping. It began to pour and I had to juggle groceries and Umbrella into the house. Then I could'nt find the car keys! I searched for half an hour, got frantic, called my neighbour over(coz Bob was at specialist) he said "Where do you keep your keys?" And guess what? My keys were on the hook where they are kept!I'd asked Brian to help me find them and he told WAYNE (my neighbour) where they were.

Never ignore your hunches!
To my regret, I have not always followed that advice, until later losses remind me what I should have known.
So glad that this turned out so well, and provided a moving poem for us to enjoy, not only in content but in form as well!

Amen and Amen
God and his angels were whispering in your ear. Truly, I believe this powerful notion we feel is God trying to reach us. I can honestly say that most if not ALL my bad experiences I had a warning thought or whisper or notion I didn't pay heed to. I'm glad you paid heed and it paid off too. THANK GOD.

Hi Pixie, Yes it pays to listen to the message as they are warnings to alert us of danger ahead. Luckily it turned out to be a happy day.

Yes you were lucky you listened
If more people took notice of little voices in their heads I am sure a lot of disasters could be avoided. Excellent poem and story.
Hugs -
Oh I'll bet you were soooooo relieved
I would have been frantic, to think I'd lost that amount of money too. You were very lucky that it was still there. I really enjoyed this write. As usual, it flowed and rhymed beautifully. Well done and best of luck in this contest

Thanks Julie. I couldn't believe it at first to see the money still there! After TWO HOURS! It was incredible.

Although you are "anonymized" it's not hard to ascertain the authorship of this poem. Few have the ability to narrate a story such as this in iambic pentameter with alternate rhyming lines, while maintaining lucidity and yet tell it simultaneously with natural human warmth and unaffected interest.
In my humble opinion this is narrative poetry at its best, employing poetic technique so unobtrusively that the reader is scarcely aware of it as the story unfolds.
Moreover, the message:
"If you hear voices whisper in your ear,
take heed! Your guides are telling you to hear."
is one which we disregard at our peril.
Good luck with the contest voting.
Applause, love and hugs, XXX Hugh.

Dearest Aunty Joan
That instinct, that inner voice, is it your angel? watching over you? I think so. I am so happy for you, your poem is wonderful. God bless you.

I liked your poem so much..... as it has a warmth not many poems have or could ever possess. You write with such heart that it is easy to feel the emotions in which flows through you. I know you will do very well in the contest as you are an outstanding poet....

Thanks Ed, I tell you I was very relieved to see the money still in there after 2 hours on the grass. Believe me our street is always busy. So it goes to show you have to listen to your inner voice, especially when they keep repeating it.
