I was just sitting at the table with my dinner plate
With a gut still full from the food I ate
I got stuck between gears
A forced brake—in the middle of a thousand stairs
Imagining Niagara and a waterfall
Like a nostalgic ‘slip-stream’ with undaunted gall
I don’t dream about that dreadful track
Though the Jersey Turnpike keeps calling me back
Those beautiful New York mountains and valleys below
And the Adirondack trails that hikers know
The Catskill Game Farm is just a memory now
An Upstate native with a recollection-plow
I could drive the Taconic but prefer the Metro-North
It depends on how much I want to put forth
It’s a mind-wrenching bustle at Grand Central
To get from there to Poughkeepsie is quaint-essential
The rumble and screech down to Croton makes me quiver
There’s a fantastic view of the Hudson River
Abruptly my time-capsule journey is interrupted…
‘Real-time’ crashes in like a hard-drive corrupted

Metro-North, Hudson Valley, Grand Central... Listen here, sonny, ain't no body on AP supposed to know 'bout that there. This here is OUR secrit. The last thing we needs is some yokel to come up here and find out there is cows in New York. So I want you to re-write this and reflect all the gang violence and shooting sprees we have going on in the city. See, I don't wanna go up and tell our Black blind gub-nur on you. So go ahead... LOL Write on, bro.

like a daydream
Thanks for your entry. All those places you mention...the Catskill game farm, Poughkeepsie..been to them before, so it's kind of like a stroll down memory lane. I really like how you show the poem as slipping into a daydream or memories...that's creative. -

Thank you very much. Again, thanks for the invite...so, here are some of MY memories of Upstate (lol). Glad to see you've made the trek - glad you liked this. And yeah, it was sorta 'dreamy' for me (until 'reality' crashed in on me...lol).
