For the first time since my childhood
there were red-headed woodpeckers.
Three that sang from the branch
nearest the ground,
as if hidden all these years
and all these miles
just hiding...waiting
to tell me their truth
so finally
I would know.

I really Love it.
Red headed, Pilated and Flickers are common here but always a joy and wonder, when I was about forty I saw my first Kingfisher and discovered they were native. About every twenty years I see a red fox in the far field. I always have to stop whatever I am doing until he disappears into the trees.

Hello ole Buddy, how are you? Your message from last month barely appeared on my page. I don't know why.
I really like how seeing the woodpeckers again represents the speakers life coming full circle. I look at finding truths as closing the circles in our lives, only to start a new circle.

Melancholy ...
and a revisited dream ... to tell you: We remember you, you are part of our dream, too.
Wondrous poem ... Nature has its own truths, and often we need those to give us perspective on our every day complexities.
Good to read you again.
Love to you, Poetess!

what a stunning piece of craftsmanship, or should I say craftwomanship. This is a very nicely written peice my friend. And being a red head,
I could just see that nodding head singing a happy song to meet you here. so, 'hello'. well done.

Thank you
Thank you so much, Mike, for reading this and for your comment. The woodpeckers have been scarce around these parts for a while, I had to travel about 1500 miles to see them, but they were a very nice surprise. We were seated on the deck in the back yard in the early morning and they lit first n the tree, then all three moved down to the top of the swing. It was a wonderful way to start the day. Again, thanks for your visit, I will return the favor.

There is a woodpecker that I've seen often this summer. Oh is he ever the plump old thing! He is our morning dove of sorts. He pecks right before they coo. Lovely poetry here poet. I love nature. You highlight your "sift through the leaves" with skill of pen, and elegance.
Much Love ♥
Renee

Those woodpeckers have a raucous and harsh "song" but I like it. Your song is far less harsh. I like IT, too.

What an odd coincidence..... just the other day I was going to the grocery store when an obviously excited redheaded woodpecker landed in the peach tree next to the house. I wish I had had my camera with me at the time. I haven't seen one of those birds since my childhood. Maybe they are an omen... good or bad I have not a clue.
Sincerely,
Leo Long

Quite an odd coincencence I would say...it must be that all this rain brings out woodpeckers...or, maybe just the red-headed ones. Thanks, Leo, I appreciate your comments.

Lovely...
Yes even the little woodpecker knows not to beat it's head directly against the wall as us humans sometimes do, but uses the insulating leverage of a beak.
This reminds me of a person who said they drove all across the plain states and saw "nothing". It doesn't matter what little corner of the world a person lives in there will always be something to see and lessons to be learned if we will just open our eyes and look. I think I just might grab the camera tomorrow and do a little nature treking myself.
Have a lovely week...
Hugs...Eddy

Excellent
You always probe beyond the superficial. I always appreciate how much you put into your comments.
There is much to see if one only opens their eyes.
As a child in Arcadia Park there were many Saturdays I was awaken early by a red headed woodpecker's noise. LOL. Saw three of them in Va...had not seen any since my teen years..(that is if you don't count Woody Woodpecker) ha ha ha ha ha. As always, thanks for the visit. And just for the record...there is my truth and there is your truth...and they may not be the same...but they are both still truth...question is..whose is truer...and to whom?
Want to hear your thoughts on that. -

While there are many "manmade" truths. I believe there is only one PURE truth and that is what I am always seeking in life's quest. I believe that duality is the key that unlocks all, for
when separated they would represent the two sides of the pure.
One good and one bad. (light/dark life/death love/hate yes/no)
The two sides of a single coin...
All things "in between" these two opposites are manmade truths, whether it be a 95/5 percent mix or a 49/51 percent mix. Since man can never probably achieve 100% of either of the "pure" sides while in human form, we should probably seek the 50/50 mix so we can equally understand BOTH sides of the issue. Unless we are at balance our thoughts are influenced depending on which side of the 50/50 we are CURRENTLY thinking from. Some would call this denial, which just happens to be
what my next contest is about...
Remember Eddy says...While there may be many roads that lead to the same end place. It can never be reached until our action is finally applied...
Wishes, hopes and prayers don't mean a hill of beans
without the the active ingredient of actions.
Maybe one of these days when I get caught up around here
I'll give you ring and have a FULL in depth conversation
on this stuff. Until then I wish you a lovely day...
Hugs...Eddy
