On the table there is an open copy of Old Man and the Sea.
“Man can be defeated but not destroyed” is its theme.
But its author was destroyed,
Like Hemmingway I will destroy myself.
For me no bell will toll,
I did not say farewell to arms,
as there was no one.
Like Hemmingway I am a lonely man.
Then in Hemmingway’s style I take a shotgun,
and put the barrel in my mouth.
I press the trigger,
then everything is over.

Whoa!...Didn't see the ending coming so fast...well written. I don't like suicide for personal reasons, but you handled it as well as any I suppose...better than some even. To place the authors works there in the 'scene' as though the thought didn't occur until after reading Hemmingway...nicely placed...I have read Hemmingway and I found his writing boring, so this holds just a bit of a sarcastic humor for me...but I am not among the norm here, I am sure...lol...Strong and concise write with a pithy theme... Peace, Rhonda

Reference to 3 Hemingway works in same poem, that was brilliant. Last part seems pretty cinematic which is never expected in real life.
