Huddled on an iron bench,
Shivering under a pale moon,
She stared blindly
towards uncertainty.
Her washed out eyes
assaulted by
the garish glimmer
of bright lights twinkling
above the bustling fair grounds.
Her stomach rumbled,
as the sickly sweet scents
of boiling hot dogs, corn on the cob,
and smoky grilled burgers and steaks,
wafted towards her on
the cool autumn breeze.
Her thin legs swung idly
in tune with the melody
of a mad spinning carousel.
Tears of understanding
streaked her dust covered face,
As children her own age,
paraded by hand in hand,
laughing with contentment.
Their faces sticky with cotton candy,
bellies full, lives uncomplicated.
Completely unaware
of pain and misery.
The night air chilled her,
finding each hole in her
torn and frayed shawl.
Each tear became an icicle
dripping down her hollowed cheeks.
She dreamed of a warming touch,
Wished for a mothers hug.
A kiss to make it all better…
With determination…
She lifted her bony hands
swiped at her tears with frustration,
and gazed longingly
towards her one nightly comfort.
Only to find, her diamonds of night
obscured by the garish glimmer
of bright lights twinkling
above the bustling fair grounds.

Great job
I can feel the loneliness and despair on this girl. How true that people can be so oblivious to others suffering, and how sad it is that it's true. Great write!!!!

Excellent
Your gift showes well in this
It also elaborates your strugle
Much if this is just beautiful
The ending is tearfull
With determination…
She lifted her bony hands
swiped at her tears with frustration,
and gazed longingly
towards her one nightly comfort.
Only to find, her diamonds of night
obscured by the garish glimmer
of bright lights twinkling
above the bustling fair grounds.
Love it
