The call to arms came loud and strong
ne'er a thought we'd be doing wrong.
Everyone who could walk or run
should join up now, trained with a gun.
We heard that plea for country's pride
and ourselves we did provide,
an army to keep the foe at bay
so I was called to join the fray.
Instructed to fight, to kill the foe
the enemy's advance we had to slow.
Use our guns to mow them down,
to keep our freedoms all around.
We were conditioned well, this was a war
this enemy landing on our shores,
all action machines ready to kill
we were ready, we'd learnt the drill.
Yet no one told us what horrors we'd see
would all this blood make us free?
many of us so very young
brainwashed by liberty's lying tongues.
As I watch with gun in hand
I wonder if this is what God had planned.
The terrors I have done and seen
will my hands be ever clean?
Yet if I stop and throw away
this instrument of death will no more slay,
But then a coward I'll be called
a deserter shot against the wall.
I march for country strong and proud
do my duty, that I vowed.
But there's voice inside of me
a child just pleading to be fancy free.
