The Secrets of Compassion

Missing image

Forgive my fragilities
& help me hone my strengths ~
hold me when I weep
even when I try to turn away.

Whisper tender words to me
when I am raw with aching
& rock me in your embrace
when night falls far too hard.

When I do something admirable,
let me know you're proud ~
when I do something horrid,
don't move away in shame.

Keep me safe from nightmares
& let me cherish my dreams ~
show me adoration
when I feel small.

It doesn't take much
to please me
& pleasing you
makes me smile.

If you will invest your time & trust,
the rewards you'll harvest

will be plentiful enough

to keep your hearth warm
when winter winds come raging wild.

That best portion of a good man's life,
His little, nameless, unremembered acts of kindness and of love.
William Wordsworth (1770 - 1850)

Sometimes when we are generous in small, barely detectable ways it can change someone else's life forever.
Margaret Cho,

I expect to pass through this world but once; any good thing therefore that I can do, or any kindness that I can show to any fellow creature, let me do it now; let me not defer or neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again.
Ettiene De Grellet

Guard well within yourself that treasure, kindness. Know how to give without hesitation, how to lose without regret, how to acquire without meanness.
George Sand (1804 - 1876)

You are not as fragile as you think, but you are a delicate darlin' thing, my Baby. Congratulations on winning two different trophies for this piece. I think your writing is much better now, especially since you moved in with me.

    Underestimated

This poem speaks compassion and has IMHO been unjustifiably underestimated in respect of trophies hitherto obtained ...

    It doesn't take much
    to please me
    & pleasing you

This verse resounds with me. It is so poignant and beautiful. Hopefully, everyone who needs that touch of compassion receives it when it is most needed. I'm afraid so many don't, though.

    A beautiful write.

    Poetic definition

Wonderful poetry that reveals the little things in life, the secrets of compassion. So often passion and compassion goes together - therefore they are one (word). This is beautiful, my friend...this is what we all need, this is what we all need to be

Your poetry speaks to the higher of all through images that hit close to the bone. Compassion is such a strange sea to swim, it treads with anger, dives with dark, surfaces again to breath and sinks into the depths of something far beyond the I... and yet when it does it sees that behind all the rocks, the carefully built and the shelter we learn to errect, those tools we use to cohabit with the others we can't live without.. we are all so much the same, all bleeding wish, hope and the need to be worthy to something, someone for nothing more than our skin...

    ..good luck...

You know, this is more like a prayer ....This is how everyone should be treated with love and compassion no matter what...I think my Dad should read this one lol....(Okay, I need to be nice) This is a lesson, and as I said, a prayer...This is one of my favorites from you...It really defines you because you take care of EVERYONE...You are an Angel and your poem reflects that!
TY for bringing a prayer of compassion to my contest
