Have you lost sight of our rights?
Or is it that you're scared?
Does our power frighten you?
The ERA was never passed,
And so we are not equal.
We do not need your pity!
We do not want any favors!
We will stand as tall as you,
And possibly succeed your standing!
In many a Middle Eastern madness
We are slain in honor killings.
Only for loving and being ourselves.
We are stripped, kicked, bloodied.
We are lashed, punched, and stoned.
Oh! And you live on!
You commit the same "crime",
But it is not you who dies, it's I!
We mourn for Dua Khalil,
The only "honor" in her killing
Was that she died for what she believed.
And the stone that was finally dropped,
Dropped like those men will into Hell!
And in an ally of China,
Sets a large rank dumpster.
It contains trash and reeks awful.
And in the midst of all the garbage,
A crying fills the air.
And on many other dark streets too!
A baby girl, abandoned!
Dying in the streets,
While the little boys sleep sound
And suck upon their tiny thumb.
The sex you sell us for.
Kidnapp us right out of our houses
Or just off the street.
Then you force us into slavery!
Fulfilling your pleasures.
And we are abused!
Beat, and killed, and used.
In many, many contries!
Let me ask you-
By this are you amused?
So for that we must hide!
Hide our sexuality.
We are not to learn of our bodies.
Sex and knowledge in woman is scarey!
And we cannot dress as we please
Without a whistle, or a threat of rape.
I am who I am- a woman!
And for that I'll never be sorry!
This codecending world may grow,
But I'll still stand with pride.
And raise up all the stength
Of those, men and woman,
who support my mind.
And support my will
To fight agaist the towering odds.
Because thats who I am.
I am a woman.

Wonderful entry
This was a strong and powerful piece. I loved the passion you put into this. I wished we had more pieces like this. You captured the topic perfectly. I also wish other women had the passion you do. I wish you loads of luck in the contest.

A thundering and influential write! There is a surge of passion feeding every line, a tempest of truth crying out through every stanza. This poem is most affecting and very real and tragic in its truth. The current event references to the cruelty done to women all around the world is so tragic, and so tangible and real throughout this stirring piece. This sore is weeping into a lethal wound, an amputation to the rights of women, whether it is in the US or anywhere else in the world. A courageous, powerful, resounding statement this poem booms! A grand and glorious write! Well done!
