The Garden We Grew

After all the years of being turned to nothing but mere dust underneath a useless purpose
We stumbled upon eachother.
You took your words and planted them in my head.
Words like beautiful, worthy, and love.
I watched as those words grew.
Then the words were firmly planted and that's all I knew.
You tended to those words and continued to help them thrive.
Then one day you had to leave
And no one was there to help those words grow.
You became bitter, for while you were gone
Someone tore up the roots of those words from your head
The words worthless, wasted, and nothing replaced them
You planted them in my head as well.
You fed off the strength of those words in my head.
You became bitter.
Those words grew and grew until they consumed my heart and soul.
Now that's all I know.
Worthless, like my father always said.
Wasted, like my family always said
Nothing, like my friends always said
All brought back to life by you.
Then I became bitter until that's all I knew
You didn't like that, You want to be in control
So you compare me to horrid people and say that I'm no different.
You tended to the bitterness and helped it grow.
I watched as the words grew
Replacing the spots where you tore the roots out of the old ones
I want those old words back.
But the roots are damaged and there are no others to replace them
Because it will never be the same
Never.

I can see why this was a trophy winner. What a heart wrenching poem. I love the raw energy and emotion. Amazing job!
