A friend and I had spent the night
talking of far off places,
of camels, dunes and Pyramids
all with eastern traces.
To glide on waters so serene
The Nile and all it’s glories,
hearing many colourful tales
of Egypt and her stories.
Ancient Gods, the Ennead,
their place in heaven and earth,
strangely sounding names
their stature and their worth.
My sleep that night was fitful
I dreamt the strangest dream,
long unbending corridors
the rarest ever seen.
The walls, the floor, the ceiling,
in colours bright and bold,
people, birds, the strangest sights
a wonder to behold.
Floating way above the ground
I came upon a door
the key around my neck
would fit it, I was sure.
Once open, I could not believe
the sight that met my eyes,
a golden chamber filled with light
so bright, it electrifies.
The ceiling like a pyramid
but open to the sky,
the stars and moon went rushing past
too fast, so way up high.
I floated over to the wall
to touch, to see if real,
my arm just simply disappeared
there was nothing there to feel.
I awoke and found myself alone
back here in my room,
had I really visited
an ancient Pharaohs tomb?
I can still recall that night,
I long for my return
to solve the unsolved mystery,
answer questions that still burn.
